“Over the years, I have had the privilege of building a vast and diverse collection of artworks from across India. This collection is not driven by acquisition alone, but by connection—connection with the artist, the process, and the philosophy behind each work. It includes masterpieces by senior and established artists who have shaped the narrative of Indian modern and contemporary art, as well as works by highly talented emerging artists who, I firmly believe, will become the future masters of our country. Many of these young artists possess the same intensity, originality, and courage that once defined legends such as Gaitonde, Hussain, Raza, and Souza,” says Mr. Ravindra Mardia.
“With decades of critical experience, Johny ML brings intellectual depth and sensitivity, creating a meaningful dialogue between senior masters and emerging artists. His curatorial vision strengthens the exhibition’s intent and adds credibility, insight, and thoughtful perspective, making him an ideal choice for this prestigious showcase,” Mr. Mardia adds.
Curator, Mr. JohnyML says that HOPE is the running theme of this group exhibition. “Things are bright and bleak alike in today’s world. Once the lights are out, when the brightness of celebrations and claims is overshadowed by the harshness of realities, we suddenly come to understand that we are at the verge of a collapse. In our precarious times, anything could happen to anybody. Our names, regions, religions, languages, clothes or anything of that sort could change the course of our lives. But each day we get up, listening to the soft sounds of nature; meowing of cats, barking of dogs, chirping of birds, familiar sounds of the milkman, newspaper guy, whistling of pressure cookers and many more. We smile and feel that we are alive; we believe that nothing has changed. We have hope. In this exhibition, one could see how hope is lighting up every canvas,” JohnyML writes in his catalogue essay.
There will be curatorial walk throughs by the curator every evening and also a panel discussion on contemporary practices will take place on 11th January at 5 pm in the gallery.
