Upasana Centre for Dance, a leading institution dedicated to the promotion of Indian dance, presents Navadisha – Exploring the Dancing Path, a two-day festival of dance to be held on 19th and 20th January 2025 at 6:00 pm at Gyan Manch, Kolkata. The festival curated by Guru Ashimbandhu Bhattacharya

Now in its fifteenth year, Navadisha has emerged as a significant platform for creative exploration in choreography. The festival aims to celebrate the evolving language of Indian dance by showcasing works that remain deeply rooted in tradition while engaging with contemporary thought, form, and expression.

Through Navadisha, Upasana Centre for Dance continues its commitment to popularising diverse dance forms and encouraging dialogue between classical aesthetics and modern sensibilities. The festival reflects how tradition is not static, but dynamic, adapting and reshaping itself within changing cultural contexts.

The festival will open on 19th January with performances by Dr. Varsha Shetty and Mrs. Disha C. Shetty from Karnataka will be performing Yaksagana a folk dance from Karnataka followed by the performance by Upasana Centre of Dance students performance

On 20th January, the stage will feature eminent artists including Dr. Madhuri Majumdar, Smt. Poushali Chatterjee, Dr. Sucharita Datta Ghata, Dr. Laxminarayan Jena, Smt. Sayani Chakraborty, and Smt. Shayomita Dasgupta, presenting a rich and varied spectrum of Indian dance traditions.

Lighting design for the festival is by Sri Soumen Chakraborty, while sound is designed by Hansi Panchali. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp will be conducted by the Director of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Dr. G. V. Subramanian.
