Vaishali Kala Kendra presents Stree - a classical dance production that traces the essence of womanhood.
On 7th August 2025, the Stein Auditorium at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, will witness an evening of profound artistic expression as Vaishali Kala Kendra presents Stree - a classical dance production that traces the essence of womanhood through historical and thematic narratives.
Curated by Founder and Director of Vaishali, Guru Dr. Jyoti Shrivastava, Stree is a layered and thoughtful exploration of feminine strength, spirituality and resilience. This production comprises choreographies by three renowned institutions - Vaishali Kala Kendra (Odissi), Art Vision led by Padma Shri Dr. Ileana Citaristi (Odissi) and AIPA led by Guru Alaknanda Dasgupta (Kathak). Each piece in the performance line-up brings with it a distinct voice, adding depth to the overarching celebration of womanhood.
As we honour August as the month of India’s independence, Vaishali Kala Kendra draws a powerful parallel between the spirit of womanhood and the soul of our motherland, presenting a series of evocative and thought-provoking productions.
The highlight of the evening is a moving dance tribute to Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, whose 300th birth anniversary is being observed this year. A visionary queen and a pioneer of spiritual and architectural restoration, Ahilyabai’s life will be portrayed through Odissi, symbolising devotion, governance and feminine leadership at its highest form.
The production also features a dynamic presentation on Virasmati Matangini Hazra, a fearless freedom fighter whose legacy reflects strength in resistance. These narratives are brought to stage with sensitivity and rigour by senior disciples Khyati Rawat, Sanvi Rastogi and Shruti Mishra, representing the ethos of Guru Jyoti Shrivastava's artistic vision.
Stree is more than a performance - it is an artistic initiative to reconnect contemporary audiences with India’s lesser-known female icons. By merging classical idioms with contemporary relevance, this production aims to bridge generations and inspire reflection.
The event will be graced by Dr. Sachidanand Joshi ji as the Chief Guest.
For audiences seeking a celebration of heritage, artistry and womanhood, Stree offers an evening of dance that is as enlightening as it is elevating. This is not merely a performance, but a cultural experience that honours the spirit of the feminine across time.
