NAMAN – An Evening with Kathak: A Tribute to Rhythm, Devotion, and Tradition
Recently, Bengaluru witnessed a mesmerizing celebration of classical dance and music as Krishnam Performing Arts Academy proudly presented NAMAN – An Evening with Kathak at Seva Sadan, 14th Cross, Malleswaram. The event beautifully blended rhythm, grace, and devotion, leaving the audience enthralled.
The evening was graced by eminent chief guests:
- Guru Sri. Mysore B Nagaraj, Karnataka Kalashree Awardee and Founder Trustee, Articulate Trust for Arts
The program brought together renowned artistes and rising talents, making it a cultural feast.
The evening opened with soulful performances by Seema Krishnan and her disciples from Krishnam Performing Arts Academy:
- Bhajan – Dekhat Chabi Shyaam Sundar by Seema Krishnan
- Teentaal technical piece in Raag Sohini by Seema Krishnan, Priya Rao, and Shweta Kallianpurkar
This was followed by spellbinding recitals by invited artistes:
- Sampada Pillai, disciple of Late Guru Dr. Rohini Bhate, presented:
- Dhrupad in Taal Neel, Raag Hamsadhwani
- Jhaptaal
- Daksha Yagna – Lamchad Kavit
Sharat R Prabhath, Founding CEO of Padapa and Artistic Director of Prabhath Arts (disciple of Nirupama & Pt. Rajendra Gangani), captivated the audience with a soulful Ram Bhajan.
Surashree Bhattacharya, Sringarmani and empanelled artiste of ICCR & Doordarshan, performed a vibrant Teental depicting the flavours of the monsoon season in Raag Miyan Ki Malhar, and concluded with a Thumri based on the Prasiddhapatika Nayika.
The musical ensemble featured the melodious vocals of Smt. Prathima Athreya, the rhythmic mastery of Sri. Biswajeet Paul on tabla, and the soulful strains of Sri. Subramanya Hegde on sitar.
The highlight of the evening was a graceful Kathak presentation by Seema Krishnan and her disciples, which captured the storytelling essence of the dance form while paying homage to its timeless traditions.
NAMAN not only showcased the depth and beauty of Kathak but also reaffirmed the spirit of cultural exchange, devotion, and artistic brilliance. The event left the audience with a sense of reverence and joy, truly making it an evening to remember.
